 A Day in the Life
 Rags to Riches

I soon realized that I was not going to be locked in my den, but allowed to remain in the open territory as the human had departed. At first I was not sure what to do but curiosity took control and I used the time to begin to explore the territory. The dirt was soft, perfect for digging. There were all kinds of things to chew. I had the best time of my life!

When the human returned I tried to greet him with a proper husky show of respect. Apparently he did not understand me, he used the black and white leaves to beat me. I did not understand how the show of respect was not a law of the pack.

He continued to leave me in the open territory and I continued to explore the wonders it contained. Each evening the human would return, sometimes he would beat me, but always he would yell at me with a harsh tone which reminded me of the humans from my first pack. I was very confused and not sure what the laws of the pack were with this human.

The open territory was the largest area I had ever been in during my short life. It was surrounded by a wall which was three times my height and made of some strange type of tree. I could not see what was on the other side but there were many strange and interesting noises. One day I would explore them but for now there was plenty to explore inside the open territory!

There were all kinds of plants which needed to be sampled. I chewed on each to see if it was suitable as a source of food. One plant had wonderful smelling, bright colored flowers but I discovered it had thorns which must be avoided when acquiring the flowers. Others were good to chew on but did not taste very good.

There was an area of soft turf which was perfect for taking long naps. One day while napping a spray of water suddenly appeared from the turf. This truly amazed me and I decided to dig into it a little deeper. The water was coming for some type of black rock which cracked when chewed. I had a wonderful time playing in the water but my human was extremely angry when he discovered why I was covered in mud. This resulted in another beating with the leaves.

As time passed the weather began to change until one day water fell from the sky. I recalled a story my mother told about the territory of the Celestial Pack and the white water which fell from the sky. I wondered if this was related to that tale. In any case, I ran about the yard attempting to catch the water in my mouth. One thing it did was soften the dirt enabling me to dig deeper and larger holes. It was great fun letting the holes fill with water and then digging in to make them deeper.

My life continued in this fashion for some time until one day everything changed. My human returned home one day with a new member of the pack, it was another Husky.

To be continued...
